We have had another busy week, we have held interviews for Assistant Principal (more news will follow in the next newsletter), planted with Coolings, made planters with the SWAC team and had the CRIBS team performing their Easter p erformance. The Pioneers brought a tear to my eye by holding their Easter play. We have such talented children at Hope. It was a fantastic ending to a great term. As we look forward to Easter, we pray for our whole school community, asking our Lord to keep our families safe, secure and well during this Holy time. May we use our Lord Jesus`s sacrifice and his glorious resurrection as an example of selflessness, dedication and love to those around us. A big THANK YOU to all those who have helped in the school this term. You really make Hope the fantastic place it is. Discoverers: We have had a very busy week making planters with SWAC and learning all about Easter and the Easter story. Explorers : The c hildren were introduced to multiplication and they wrote their own recount for the trip to the Recycling Centre in Sidcup. We also did l ots of Easter activities and crafts . Adventurers: - Coolings came and we planted some nasturtiums and a class tomato plant. We planted potatoes for a completion to see who can grow the most with the Explorers. Pioneers: We have been practicing making different nets and designing our own East er boxes. We also used recycli ng products to create planters. Our value is ' humility ` Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, a nd to give his life as a ransom for many . Psalms 149: 4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. NEWSLETTER - TERM 1 - 9 TH MARCH 2017 Dear Parents/Caregivers, STUDENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING Last Thursday 2nd March, it was my privilege to spend some of the morning working with students undertaking Student Leadership Training. The Lighthousekeeper Executive, class Lighthousekeeper representatives, Wellbeing leaders and Student Voice in Learning team, along with all students from Years 6/7, participated in a number of activities at different times during the morning. Before recess, all the above students worked together to develop cooperation and team work skills through participation in some fun group games involving students from across the age groups. Students then participated in short, fun activities to develop some aspect of leadership skills. After recess, the Year 6/7 students worked in small teams to begin developing a presentation about student leadership at HCEPS. This is a work in progress and I am looking forward to them sharing their presentations with others in the school. I would like to thank Andrea Hayden and Chris Ross (who very generously volunteered his time), who planned and l ed the morning's program. A special thank you also to Jonathon Warren - White and Dylan Phillips who helped deliver the activities during the day. STUDENT VOICE IN LEARNING PROJECT Also on Thursday, our Student Voice in Learning, (formerly Student Learning Rounds), team met with similar teams from other partnership schools to commence training in observing and creating stretch thinking activities in classrooms. This was the first of several meetings and I will keep the sc hool community informed of what the team is doing as we go along. STAFFING UPDATE Bruce Norris returns from leave next week. Please note that the Annual Report for 2016 was tabled at the AGM. This will be available shortly in the website for your perusal. PARKING ISSUES Unfortunately we continue to receive reports from parents about unsafe and inappropriate parking and driving practices in Coorabie Cres. It is extremely important that parents follow road signs and rules strictly in this area. While I know that most parent s do what is right to ensure safety and courtesy, students' lives are still being put at risk through the practices of a few. If you observe inappropriate practices in Coorabie Cres please contact the Marion Council (parking) or Police (driving) with a num berplate and vehicle description. Anne Rathjen PRINCIPAL READING CORNER Each Newsletter the Early Years Team will provide you with strategies to help support and encourage your child to read at home. These ideas have come from the website http://www.readingrockets.org/ . This is a very useful site offering ideas to get children reading from a very young age. You can also check out the Parent section of our website. Gently correct your young reader When your child makes a mistake, gently point out the letters he or she overlooked or read incorrectly. Many beginning readers will guess wildly at a word based on its first letter. EARLY YEARS TEAM
