Hey, Congrats. You just took a big step. Adults so often tell me: "If only I had started learning about money at 40, I'd be in such good shape. " So if you're 23, 25 or even 35 ... and even if you're starting with nothing or with a load of debt ... you have a leg up on most people, simply because you're starting to learn about money NOW. Keep reading for some perspective on the journey ahead. Oh -- and that subscription page you just accidentally clicked out of that had the bonus worksheets and ebooks -- don't worry, the links are posted at the bottom (so hold onto this email!) The stuff I will show you isn't rocket science, and yet not a single person I know (yours truly included) makes perfect financial decisions 100% of the time. After all, we're human, not ATMs. Learning to deal with this human element of personal finance -- our relationships with money -- is what makes this journey interesting. It also means that personal finance is as much (or more) about psychology than it is about math ... just keep that in the back of your mind for now. Personal finance is 20 percent knowledge and 80 percent action. So, I'm going to send you an email a day for the next week. (Don't worry --- after that, I won't blow up your inbox.) These emails will each contain a specific action item for you to perform. I hope they will: Teach some of that knowledge and Give you ways to take action on your finances right away. For example, we'll cover how to put your savings on auto-pilot, how to switch to banks and credit cards that put more money in your pocket, and little ways you tweak your behavior that will add up to BIG savings over the year. Now -- that subscription page link you've been waiting for. Here it is: This page has a bunch of bonus worksheets and ebooks for you as a thank you for signing up. The bonus materials should get you excited for mastering your money. I hope they help you. After you've completed some, send me a note to let me know how they worked -- I really do pay attention. Also, can you spare two minutes to help me help you? This quick seven-question survey will help me to get to know you better...take the survey and tell me about yourself now. Thank you again for signing up. Your support makes what I do possible, and I really appreciate it. -David PS: If you have comments/questions/suggestions, just reply to this email. I read every one. Dear Alumni of Canon Slade School Thank you for registering your details on the school's âAlumniâ page. In the short time the page has been running there has been a splendid response - about 150 of you have registered, ranging from one w ho started as a pupil in 1938 right through to others who have only left recently. As we said the idea is to stay in touch with as many former pupils and staff as possible and to share news about the school with you . In this our first communication to yo u using the data base we would like to make you aware that Canon Slade School is anticipating having a brand new website after February 2015. Just a reminder that the current site's link is www.canon - sl ade.bolton.sch.uk/ While saying 'Goodbye' to our Head of eight years Canon Philip Williamson, the school was very pleased to welcome Mr Alan Mottershead as his replacement in September, or rather to welcome him back as he was here in the early 1980s teac hing English and Drama. We would also like to notify you of some staff changes namely that Mr Stuart Blackburn (Head of Religious Studies), Tracey Cropper and Gill Burns will be moving on to pastures new at the end of this term. If you are wondering how your old school has been doing in your absence, a couple of items on the school's Home Page are worth looking at. Ofsted's assessment can be found through one link and there's a very recent article 'Canon Slade Impress At National Swimming Championships' a t another. We hope you'll agree that the school has plenty of varied achievements to enjoy. Please do spread the word amongst any Alumni (family or friends) that you are still in touch with and encourage them to register their details through the form on the website. The link to use at the moment is http://www.canon - slade.bolt o n.sch.uk/ alumni If you are looking for somewhere to have your own reunion, Ca rbon Bars in Bolton is run by two of our alumni, Paul and Phil Clavering who would make you very welcome. Just google to find out their contact details. We in the voluntary Alumni Team would be very happy to help with some arrangements, such as group vis its to the school. Our contact is alumni@canon - slade.bolton.sch.uk . They just need to follow the guidelines for effective employee recognition so that they have maximum impact. Quick emails that thank an employee or coworker are treasured and show respect to the recipient. Here are several sample thank you emails that you can use as templates and tailor to meet your own needs. Quick Thank You Emails 1. Thank You Email Following a Training In this email, the employee is thanking his or her supervisor for the opportunity to attend a training. Hi Margaret, Just a quick note to thank you for the opportunity to attend the training session on dealing with conflict in the workplace. As a conflict-averse person, I thought the training would help sharpen my conflict resolution skills, and it did. I'll have to see how well what I learned will transfer back to the job, but I'm confident the training provided me with a lot of insight and necessary tools. Without your support, I would not have been able to attend. Many thanks, Dan 2. Thank You Email for an Everyday Job Done Well In this thank you email, please note that the manager is specific about what she is thanking him for doing. Dear Tom, Just wanted you to know that I thought you did a terrific job updating the customer service database. Now that we have returning callers identified, we are building those necessary relationships with customers. This is far better than treating return customers as if we don't know who they are. Again, bravo Tom, for a job well done. We really appreciate your effortsâ"as do the customers. Thank you. Tricia 3. Thank You Email From a Supervisor for Filling in for a Coworker This email thanks Marty for his help providing coverage while (department head) Julia was on leave and mentions positive outcomes from the coverage. It also passes the baton back to Julia beginning the day she returns to work. Hi Marty, Thank you for covering for Julia while she was out on maternity leave. Her staff appreciated that they had you to go to for questions and support. The staff feedback was that they got some new ideas from your sales group's approach to identifying potential customers. Now that Julia is returning from leave, I hope that you spend a few days with her to update her about anything important that occurred during the past twelve weeks. She'll be returning next Monday and working part-time for the first few weeks, but her staff will report to her beginning Monday. I trust that you will make this transition as smooth for everyone as you did when you took over Julia's staff leadership role during her absence. Again, I can't express how much the organization appreciates your efforts on our behalf. Best, Brian 4. Thank You Email With a Reward This thank you email specifically notes several contributions that Paula made. Most importantly, it rewards Paula with a day off. Hello Paula, Thanks for your help in hosting our first-ever weekend training sessions. Without our staff volunteers, the training department would never have been able to pull off such a great event for our customers and friends. You were one of the volunteers who took registrations in the morning and stayed late to clean up after dinner. On top of that, you participated in the sessions. I hope you enjoyed the weekend and took away some valuable training points. It's tough to tell busy, dedicated employees to skip work, but if you'd like to take a day off to recuperate this week, please do, at no charge to your PTO bank. A much-deserved day off will give you the chance to get all those weekend errands done that you couldn't get to because of work. Once again, my sincere thanks. We could not have pulled this off without you. Best Regards, Sharon 5. Thank You Email From a Coworker This is a casual note and good example of the kind of thank you letters that coworkers are encouraged to send to each other. Hi Larry, Once again, a great time was had by all at the ballgame. I can't believe that you have the energy to set up this event for 100 people each year. Just arranging a date, securing tickets for everyone, and renting buses for the game is mind-boggling. I promise I will continue to attend every year as long as it is such great fun. It also helps that you do the work so I don't have to (haha). Again, Larry, thank you for another great company outing. I hope you feel the love from enough of us that you decide to put the trip together again next year. Dave 6. Thank You Email for Running a Meeting This note comes from either the manager of the team or a coworker who is the team leader. It's a good example of the type of note that probably made Beth's day. Dear Beth, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you filling in for me at today's marketing meeting. The group could not afford to lose a week if we plan to have the campaign ready for launch next month. The product appears to be on schedule, which makes our timely preparation even more critical. I can't believe that my daycare closed because of the weather on the day of the most important meeting this month. But, thanks to you, we are still on target. I also appreciate the minutes that Cheryl forwarded to me. It looks like you had a most productive meeting and the notes kept me in the loop. Once again, thank you, Beth, for jumping in at the last minute and doing such a great job. Sincerely, Stephanie Conclusion About Thank You Emails Thank you, emails don't require a lot of effort or time, but they are appreciated by employees and co-workers. Whenever possible, create a work culture that encourages people to thank employees more oftenâ"not less. The written recognition of a thank you email, no matter how brief, is something that is cherished and remembered. Thank you for completing your registration and welcome to the Taylor family! We look forward to your confirmation vote o n the Senate floor. We also hope that you take the time to read the letter sent by our coun ty commissioner, Phil Lyman, and we would like to add our invitation to his. The Stewar ds of San Juan is a recognized c ommunity o rganization vested with the responsibility of reviewing and taking actions on matters of local concern that are in the best int erest of the health, safety, and welfare of San Juan County residents. This organization uses a balanced and inclusive approach to advocate for the values, resources, opportunities, culture, and lifestyle of San Juan County. We are writing to you today to inform you of our opposition to the recent 1.35 million acre Bears Ears National Monument in San Juan County as designated by President Obama. We stand with our elected city, county, and state officials, as well as , local Navajo and Ute tribes , who also op pose this designation and are currently asking President Trump to rescind it. The majority of Navajo and Ute residents in San Juan County overwhelmingly oppose the monument designation, in contrast to out - of - county /state tribes who know very little of this area and will simply not be affected by this monument. I t is appalling that non - local voices have drowned out those who treasure this land the most. Long before established bureaus arrived, it was and has always been the local people who have protected and cared for this land; we are the reason it is pristine. We al so understand that multiple use of the land is vital to our economic and cultural survival, which is why it is so important that we are, and continue to be, excellent stewards of this land. This monument was designat ed in order to appease outside special interest groups. It was done WITHOUT a robust consultation with the stakeholders who actually live in San Juan County. Voices of life - long residents and tribal members have been , and continue to be, blatantly ignored. N on - government organizations such as the B ears E ars I nter - T ribal Coalition, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, and Conservation Lands Foundation should never have the power to trump sovereign State rights, nor duly elected officials, no matter how big their wallets are. W hen the former Interior Secretary visited our state, she prioritized her time to meet with these outside groups and those that would only be marginally affected by the monument. For this reason, we hope that when you visit our state you will prioritize your ti me to meet with the people of San Juan County, the elected officials that we have chosen to represent us, and the Navajo and Ute tribes whose way of life will be devastated by this monument. We t hank you for your time and consideration on this matter, and look forward to mee ting you soon. Sincerely, C c: President Donald Trump Utah Congressional Delegation Utah Governor Gary Herbert San Juan County Commission Jami Bayles, President Stewards of San Juan County .
