If you wish to enrol in a study programme taught in Dutch, you will need to learn the Dutch language first. The University of Amsterdam offers Dutch language courses, which can take up to one year for absolute beginners, at the end of which you must pass the Dutch proficiency test. Students from outside the European Economic Area* need to pay an application fee of 100 Euro**, refundable to those who are accepted and registered at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. Furthermore, non-native English speakers from outside the European Economic Area also need to take an English proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge International Examinations).
