A Surprise for South Sudan’s Pastors

Dear Friends,

Nine pastors in South Sudan wrote to us. They don’t yet know what we’re doing next.

Last Sunday I shared the need to translate The Real Story of Jesus into the top 10 native languages of South Sudan. We are now fully funded! Thank you for standing with us and the pastors of South Sudan. The translations are already underway.

While I was writing to you, their letters were just arriving. So rather than me sharing their need, I want you to hear it directly from them. Please take a few minutes to read what they wrote:

“The generation we have today of young people doesn’t want printed Bibles. They live in a digital world. The Real Story of Jesus will help to meet the young people where they are.”

“We don’t have evangelism and discipleship materials in our language. We don’t even have a Bible in our language.”

“Most of our people are not educated. Though we have a Bible in our language, many can’t read it… We don’t have Sunday school materials. This video will help us to teach our children to obey God.”

“Toposa community has a Christian population of around 2–3%, and the rest are traditionalists… After watching The Real Story of Jesus video, the preacher will only need to make an altar call.”

“Most of our community members have lost hope. We believe that with the help of The Real Story of Jesus video in our language, we can be able to restore that hope in them.”

Now God has put it on my heart to send these pastors 50 solar-powered iBIBLE tablet kits. They don’t even know these exist.

Pastors in South Sudan are dedicated to sharing the Gospel in their hurting communities.

Here’s what Pastor Woduapai wrote, with no idea a tablet is coming:

“One can go with a tablet to the community and just show The Real Story of Jesus in our language. Even someone who did not go to school will be able to understand the salvation story.”

He’s describing the very gift we want to put in his hands. When the tablets arrive, I’ll send you the photos and reactions.

These pastors are serving in hard places. Fighting broke out again late last year, hundreds of thousands have fled their homes, and most people don’t have enough to eat. As Pastor Atoc wrote, “South Sudan is in tatters. It needs the Gospel.”
