Signed: ___________________________________________________________________ Dated: ___________________________________________________________________ ---------- Dear Parent/Guardian: We are quickly approaching a very important part of our year at Ross. State testing and ACT testing is right around the corner. The bulk of the Ohio State Tests (OSTs) will be given during the last week of March and April 23-27. A more detailed schedule will be sent home with your child as we get closer to the actual testing dates. This holds true for our Juniors taking the ACT as well. When this information is sent home, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the schedule and make sure your child is prepared to take these critical assessments. Every point your child earns brings them closer to their goal of graduation. During our testing windows, it is imperative that students arrive to school on time and are well rested. Our doors open at 7:00 AM and breakfast is offered to all students. If possible, try to schedule appointments for after school, so we can limit distractions and disruptions to your child's day. We believe that student attendance is critical. Data shows that if a student misses less than three days per quarter they improve their chances of passing classes, but also develop habits that will make them more successful in life. This newsletter will also contain information regarding Ross procedures for students who are chronically absent, tardy and off-schedule (skipping class). Please make sure your review this information with your son or daughter as it could impact their eligibility to participate in after school events. Senior graduation information will be passed out on February 2 at the senior meeting. Please make sure you talk to your son or daughter about this information. It is critical that deadlines are met in order facilitate a smooth graduation process. All seniors must have a signed graduation contract on file in the office in order to participate in the commencement exercise. The Ross guidance department is in the process of scheduling our students for the 2018-2019 school year. Your child will be provided information concerning the classes and program Ross offers to its students. Please take the time to review the information and explore the options that are available. Most importantly, use this as an opportunity to discuss your child's future aspirations. This dialogue will help guide your child toward more meaningful course selections. We look forward to an eventful February, March and April. Bring on the warm weather! February/March, 2018 ABSENCES, TRUANCIES & OFF SCHEDULE We firmly believe that your child's attendance and proper behavior is critical to his/her classroom success. There will be two presentations given by one of our Careers and Higher Education Counsellors, Mr. Stott about how our (I)GCSE programmes relate to future pathways and career choices. The seminar will be held in Room 231 at 3.30pm and will be repeated again at 5.30pm. The talk will last approximately 30 minutes, so please be aware that during your selected seminar you should avoid making appointments to see your child's subject teachers. Please sign up for either the 3.30pm-4.00pm or the 5.30pm-6.00pm sessions on the online booking system. Beginning Monday, 26th February (at 12.00pm), you can make appointments to see your child's teachers via the Gateway in the Parent Consultation module. The booking system will close at 12pm on Monday, 5th March. We have attached a detailed floor plan and seating charts to this letter to indicate the location of all subject teachers. Therefore, please use this as you are planning your appointments to ensure that there is sufficient movement time between teachers and locations. We recommend a minimum of five minutes between appointments. Please refer to the following link for instructions on how to make appointments: Instructions on How to Use the Parent Consultation Module: http://shatincollege.edu.hk/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Gateway-Support-Guide-for-Booking-Parent-Consultation.pdf Finally, we would like to point out that some classes in Year 10 have two or more teachers delivering the subject. In this case only one of the teachers will be available for booking. The staff will be well prepared to speak on all of the students' progress, having discussed in detail the students in their class. The Gateway can be accessed at the link https://sc.tg.esf.edu.hk. If you have any difficulties logging in to or using the Gateway please email our support desk at gatewaysupport@shatincollege.edu.hk . You are advised to bring the confirmed appointment listing, which can be printed via Gateway. We look forward to seeing you on the 7th March.
